New Horizons Computer Learning Center of Long Island                  Commack/Westbury, New York

IT Director, System/Network Engineer, Trainer                                                      May 2000 to July 2002

w   Evaluated classroom and client site training delivery quality problems and formulated a plan of corrective actions to eliminate recurring problems. Solutions 100% implemented and effective at reducing problems to negligible levels (customer refunds reduced by nearly 600%) included: repaired, upgraded, and/or purchased PC equipment to attain and maintain a consistent standard which minimized setup issues and hardware failure during classes; completed implementation of an image based classroom loading system based on Norton's Ghost software, and built or repaired images for all classes so that PC was 100% configured after download for a class; to solve massive network connectivity problems, re-cabled all classrooms to meet current standards and upgraded LAN to Cisco "10/100/1000 switch based" with Cat5e backbone; developed a problem tracking (call center) system, developed and documented IT procedures, hired and trained technicians to work on corrective actions.

w   Replaced poorly performing WAN and internet connections between our locations with "fiber optic based" dedicated T1 and internet T1 circuits. 10-20% weekly  downtime and related technology problems eliminated. Both business side and classroom side LAN/WAN performance improved dramatically as a result.

w   Built generic "low cost" servers to required to add Domain Controllers, DNS, DHCP, WINS at each company site/location to eliminate login, replication, name resolution, replication issues and bottlenecks previously experienced.

w   Overall LAN/WAN available bandwidth increased substantially  and excess waste traffic reduced. Improvements allowed for 300 plus users while maintaining minimal collisions and maximum internet speed.

w   Installed and performed basic configurations for Cisco 2500 series Routers and Cisco Catalyst series switches for the corporate network. This was a critical step in solving bandwidth problems for their LAN/WAN and internet connections.

w   Planned, configured, installed, and administered three Exchange 5.5 servers with client access via LAN Outlook clients, OWA, and Outlook client via Citrix Metaframe Terminal Server.

w   Planned, configured, installed, and administered Citrix-Metaframe server for employee off-site LAN and application access.

w   Administered and maintained three legacy Foxpro database driven applications used to provide ERP like functionality for Accounting, Scheduling, and Sales. Key  team member to replace legacy applications  with ASP model "Windows based" applications. Complete data migration and end user training accomplished during a 3 week period. Legacy applications decommission afterwards. Installed and configured SQL 2000 Server for planned move from ASP model ERP database to in-house database and application.

w   Planned, configured, installed, and administered network based DLT backup system using HP/Veritas for critical servers and data. Developed rotation and offsite storage routines. Data restorations successful.

w   Planned, configured, installed, and administered enterprise security  systems, including SPAM filters, corporate multilayer Anti-virus software for all gateways, clients, servers, and e-mail. Cisco PIX Firewall and NAT used to protect LAN from intrusion. Additional Firewall systems and IDS implemented to increase protection for company web site/server. These security  systems were able to successfully stop or subdue a number of major virus outbreaks like Nimda without significant downtime.

w   Planned and implemented client and server migrations to Windows 2000 Pro and Advanced Server from Windows 98/NT 4.0 based OS, including design and implementation of DNS and Active Directory  structure.

w   Planned, configured, installed, and administered network based Call Accounting software system to support Sales Management requirement.

w   Administered and assisted maintenance for internal phone system including voicemail server and telephone switches.

w   Worked with Instructors to develop and document curriculum for existing and new classes.

w   Taught application and technical classes part time and provided full time employee training office technologies and systems.

w   Configured technical classes as isolated LANS and created systems and objects required by curricula (as an example many classes like Exchange and SQL will require numerous servers be built to emulate a real world environment for students in the classes). Classes like Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Exchange, Lotus Notes/Domino, Novell Netware, Cisco, Citrix, SQL, and more had to be routinely setup with and for the full time instructors.

w   Planned, installed, and configured Checkpoint FW1 Firewall for use on our corporate network and also a classroom image for use on delivery of our information security training classes.
